Reishi Mushroom Powder (Ganoderma lucidum)
Reishi mushrooms are a type of polypore fungus native to North America, Asia, and Europe. Known as a shelf mushroom, Ganoderma lucidum typically grows on the trunks of deciduous trees but is now widely cultivated on logs, sawdust, and woodchips. The fruiting body has a striking red lacquered exterior and a fan-shaped, kidney-like appearance.
Reishi has been revered for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is called lingzhi, or the “mushroom of immortality.” First documented during the Han dynasty, this sacred mushroom was once reserved for royalty due to its esteemed reputation. Used as a tonic herb in TCM, reishi was believed to support the body’s vital energy, or Qi, and was even valued in spiritual communities for its calming and restorative properties.
Recognized today as an adaptogen, reishi is believed to help balance the body and mind.
