Slippery Elm Bark (Ulmus rubra)
Slippery elm is a large, deciduous tree native to eastern North America, valued for its mucilaginous properties. Our slippery elm bark is sourced from the inner bark of organic Ulmus rubra trees. Traditionally used by Native Americans for its beneficial effects, it is now commonly consumed as a soothing tea.
Slippery elm thrives in well-drained soils and can grow up to 60 feet (20 meters) tall. It is native to areas from Texas to Manitoba and from Florida to Quebec. The inner bark of the tree is harvested in the spring, before being used for various purposes. When mixed with room temperature water, slippery elm forms a gel-like consistency, which makes it ideal for teas and topical preparations.
