White Willow Bark Organic

White willow (Salix alba) is a deciduous tree known for its long, slender green leaves and gray-brown bark. Native to Europe and western Asia, its bark has been valued in traditional European herbalism for centuries and is often prepared as a tea or tincture.

Willow trees are also found across North America, northern Asia, and parts of Africa. Indigenous healers utilized willow bark long before its active compound, salicin, was isolated in 1828 by German chemist Felix Hoffmann. This discovery led to the development of aspirin by Bayer in 1899, making willow bark the foundation of one of the earliest modern pain relievers. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), white willow is known as bai liu pi and is a member of the Salicaceae family.

Precautions

Avoid if allergic to aspirin or other salicylates. Not recommended for children or adolescents with viral infections due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome. Consult a qualified healthcare practitioner before use, especially if pregnant, nursing, or taking medications.
