Rose Hips: A Nutrient-Rich Fruit of the Rose

Rose hips are the vibrant fruits of the rose plant, appearing in early summer and ripening into late autumn. Our organic rose hips are harvested from wild stands of Rosa canina and Rosa rubiginosa, and are carefully dried to preserve their nutritional properties. When fresh, rose hips have a naturally tart flavor and can be enjoyed as food. Dried rose hips are commonly used to make herbal syrups or steeped into a fragrant and soothing rose hip tea.

These fruits develop after the rose petals fall, and they are known by several names, including “rose haw.” Rose hips are renowned as one of the most concentrated natural sources of vitamin C. They have a tangy taste and are often used to make jelly, jam, soup, or oil, and they can also be infused to flavor tea. During World War II, the British government encouraged the collection of rose hips to make rose hip syrup, a vital source of vitamin C during times when citrus fruits were scarce. Rose hips have a long-standing history in traditional herbal practices for their beneficial properties.
