Organic Coltsfoot 

Native to Europe and parts of Asia, Tussilago farfara, or coltsfoot, is an herbaceous perennial known for its spreading rhizomatous root system. This plant grows in colonies and features yellow flowers, along with large, hoof-shaped leaves that resemble a horse’s hoof. Coltsfoot has a long-standing presence in traditional European herbalism, where it has been used for centuries and is often surrounded by folklore. The herb is commonly infused for topical applications, benefiting from its gentle properties.

Coltsfoot can be found growing wild throughout much of Europe. Its name is derived from the horseshoe-shaped leaves. It was so popular in Europe that French pharmacists once painted its flowers on their doorposts as a symbol of wellness. Brought to the American colonies from Europe, it bears a resemblance to butterbur before it flowers, with older herbals warning against confusing the two plants.
